Sedation Options for Oral Surgery

Sedation Dentistry Patient Drinking Coffee

Norwell Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center offers multiple sedation options to ensure patient comfort during oral surgery procedures. Dr. Helal and Dr. Colton work with each patient to determine the most appropriate level of sedation based on the procedure and individual needs. Our board-certified oral surgeons are trained in administering sedation safely, giving patients in Norwell, MA and the South Shore peace of mind during treatment.

Ask about sedation for your procedure. Call 781-871-7800.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is a well-established and safe sedation method available at Norwell Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center. Delivered through a comfortable mask placed over your nose, nitrous oxide is blended with oxygen so you can continue breathing naturally. Most patients begin to notice its calming effects within just a few minutes. You may experience a pleasant sense of lightness, gentle tingling in your extremities, or a feeling of warmth and heaviness in your arms and legs. The overall sensation is one of relaxation and ease. Once the mask is removed at the end of your procedure, the effects dissipate rapidly, allowing you to resume your normal activities shortly afterward. Ask Dr. Helal or Dr. Colton whether nitrous oxide is a suitable sedation choice for your upcoming procedure.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For patients who experience anxiety about oral surgery, conscious oral sedation offers a gentle way to stay calm and at ease while remaining awake. At Norwell Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, Dr. Helal or Dr. Colton may prescribe an oral sedative that is taken prior to your procedure and combined with local anesthesia to ensure you feel little to no discomfort throughout your treatment. Because the sedative effects can linger after your appointment, we ask that you arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from our Norwell office on the day of your procedure.

IV Sedation

IV sedation uses intravenous medications to help patients achieve a deep state of relaxation or sleep during oral surgery procedures. This sedation option is particularly beneficial for patients undergoing complex surgical treatments, those who experience significant dental anxiety, or individuals with special needs. Dr. Helal and Dr. Colton will discuss the advantages of IV sedation during your consultation at Norwell Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center and help you determine if it is the right choice for your procedure and comfort level.
